About Alcatel
Founded in 1898 and with sales of EURO 12.3 billion in 2004, Alcatel operates in more than 130 countries. 2004 sales were distributed geographically as follows: Western Europe 42%, Other Europe 7%, USA 15%, Asia 15% and Rest of World 21%. Income is derived from wire-line and wireless carriers as well as from private customers, including enterprises, satellite operators, cable service providers, transport companies, utilities, the oil and gas sector, government institutions and many more.
Alcatel in the UK
Alcatel’s businesses in the United Kingdom and Ireland have grown rapidly over the last 10 years. Over 60 per cent of its revenues were from exports, making Alcatel the UK’s largest exporter of communication systems. Alcatel UK, headquartered in London, employs nearly 2,000 people and undertakes sales and service, development and manufacturing, including the production of around 40 per cent of the world’s supply of undersea transmission systems at Greenwich. Alcatel holds two Queen’s Awards for its outstanding records of technology innovation and international trade in undersea telecommunications.
